I’m not a huge fan of Gypsy Jazz (which is to say I’ve never given it a chance), but I am a fan of great guitar playing in general. This kid (I say kid as he is in his early 20s) has some major skills… This is Joscho Stephan doing his version of Bossa Dorado and keeping me entertained enough to watch it at least 10 times…
Here’s another performer I stumbled across… This is Michael Hedges performing his best known piece entitled “Aerial Boundaries”… No overdubs, just his hands and the guitar… Guitar is tuned: C2C3D3G3A3D4

are you serious? i mean, really? you’ve got to start listening to Gypsy Jazz, so you can find out what it really is. see these two clips…
both Django…
Well, if the hipster culture has decided to latch onto Gypsy Jazz, I’m not sure if I should listen…
I’m just joshing ya… I’m still not convinced… I really like the technical skill of what all these guitarists are doing… Maybe it’s cause those recording sound like they were done in a fucking aluminum can (I know, I know… old, slightly underground music from the 50s doesn’t just magically sound well recorded….)…
I was just really impressed with Joscho (while you might call him a wanna-be) and he is being praised by the Gypsy Jazz establishment as the next Django (even superior, considering he has all his fingers… Although the “sound” and “feel” of Gypsy Jazz comes from the strumming hand, and not the fret hand… But whatever)… Nothing will top Otomo Yoshihide’s expression with the guitar…
(Careful.. Lots of feedback and squeals…)
there is no Gypsy Jazz establishment.
“there is no Gypsy Jazz establishment” how do you know this? Did you research this?… ’cause I did… I don’t just post a video and that’s that…. I read what I could about this Joscho feller before I posted…
Would you not call websites run by and dedicated to the faithful an “establishment”?

Just because you don’t want there to be an establishment around an underground style of music you like doesn’t mean there isn’t…
you’ve established yourself…
as a boob.
By your definition, i guess i’m the establishment.
I would agree with both of your statements.
What an addition Jar… His mustache… I want to lick it…
