Gus Visser And His Performing Duck
And now for a bit of lighthearted fun….
Behold a cross-eyed dandy lisp his way through the lyrics to “Ma, He’s Making Eyes At Me” while gently squeezing the scrotum of a mallard to provide the plaintive, squawking “Ma!”
The performer? Mr. Gus Visser, vaudevillian extraordinaire, and his incredible Singing Duck. While, at first glance, just a bizarre oddity of the early sound era, this film clip is of actual historical note. It was made by Theodore Case in 1925 as a proof-of-concept for the sound-on-film process he was shopping around an all silent Hollywood… a process that would eventually lead to the birth of the talkie in 1929’s The Jazz Singer.

So, I was trying to figure out a song I remember from when I was younger, and then, Wham (hah, get it?) I found it… Kinda creepy, but then, well, why wouldn’t it be creepy…

Born in 1988, Jordy had this hit (15 weeks at #1 in France) when he was 4 years old. Guinness Book of World Records says this is the youngest singer to ever achieve a #1 charting single. It was a massive hit in several countries (including Brazil, which must be where I heard it in ‘92..) but only hit #58 on American charts…

Rap Cat - a terrible icon for a terrible restaurant
Yeah it’s old news i know, but some may not have caught the wave.
Rap cat is the new spokes-animal/puppet for Checkers drive-ins. What? Checkers still exists? Not around here it don’t. Anyway. Rap Cat is a playa who raps about…well…hard to say because he only meows. He meows though the entire song. It’s fantastic for how bad it is. He has his own website as well.
